Hun Xen shook hands with Thai leaders from all political spectrum: Samak Sundaravej ...
Chea Dara, the commander of the Preah Vihear temple region, accused the Cambodian opposition party of cooperating with Thailand’s opposition party to create havoc along the border between the two countries with the aim of destroying the Cambodian 4th mandate legislative election.
Chea Dara, the RCAF commander for the Preah Vihear temple region, declared during the visit of Hor 5 Hong in the region on 24 January that the invasion of Thai troops in Cambodia during the 2008 election was done because the Cambodian opposition party was conniving with the Thai opposition party. In response to this [baseless] accusation, Yim Sovann, SRP spokesman, rejected this claim, saying the opposition party is not involved with any party outside the country. In fact, Yim Sovann added, relationship at the international level is the role of the government. It should be reminded that Thailand’s invasion of Cambodia took place on 15 July 2008 after the Preah Vihear temple was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site [as requested by Hun Xen’s government] and the invasion took place during the preparation of the 4th mandate legislative election [and Hun Xen capitalized on this invasion to boost his own popularity in Cambodia.]
