The People's Alliance for Democracy yesterday issued a statement voicing opposition to the move for charter amendment and threatening to resume street protests if the Constitution-rewriting process were to be activated.
"The problems cannot be attributed to the Constitution, but to the politicians themselves," said PAD co-leader Chamlong Srimuang.
Proponents of the amendments are trying to trample on others with charter provisions to satisfy their vested interests, he said, pledging to restart street protests if the rewriting process began.
The last time the yellow shirts rallied - in 2008 - it was for 193 days, and the PAD would do it again to deter any attempts to amend the Constitution, Chamlong said.

He reminded lawmakers of all stripes that they had a myriad of pressing issues to tend to instead of getting sidetracked by charter amendments.
Regardless of which political clique in power, the PAD has never wavered in its opposition to charter rewriting, he said.
However, should street protests be resumed, the PAD might not try to oust the government like it did in 2008, he added.
