The M79 grenade attack at the office of army chief Anupong Paojinda has been a huge slap in the face for the general and he and the army have been doing their best to keep it under wraps.
The attack took place last Friday, when someone fired the grenade into the dining room adjacent to Gen Anupong's office in the army headquarters at between 2am and 3am.

The army did not release any report on the attack, however. Officers also seemed to have been ordered to keep their mouths shut.
No army staff filed a police complaint after the attack.
Nevertheless, eventually military reporters managed to get confirmation that it had taken place and reported it on Wednesday.

Then on Thursday, Gen Anupong ordered Col Suraphon Tapananon, director of the Support Division of the army headquarters, to lodge a complaint with police about the attack, a full six days after it took place.
Gen Anupong not only tried to hide information on the attack from the media and other military officers, but ordered quick repairs to be made to his office.
