The opposition Puea Thai Party on Sunday accuses Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy overseeing security Suthep Thaugsuban of practicing double standards regarding army specialist Khattiya Sawasdipol's case and the seizure of Suvarnabhumi airport by yellow-shirt protesters in late 2008.
Maj-Gen Khattiya, widely known as Seh Daeng and a red-shirt supporter of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, was accused of being involved in the grenade attack at the military headquarters on Jan 14.
Nobody was injured."The police have been politically pressured to quickly issue an arrest warrant for Seh Daeng. However, there is no progress in the airport seizure case when there are clear evidence," Puea Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit claimed.
The Human Rights Watch reported that the government had critically breached violated human rights, particularly concerning the political turmoil in April last year and the repatriation of Hmong people to Laos, he said.
The opposition spokesman called on the premier to be impartial to bring about justice, reduce political conflicts and restore people's confidence in the country.In response, the prime minister denied that his administration breached human rights.
"My government has placed great importance on human rights issues and tackle all national problems such as the southern violence, lese majeste charges, computer law infringement and the use of security law in a legitimate and transparent manner," Mr Abhisit said.
He said the Human Rights Watch may have acquired false information from some ill-intentioned groups.
