Puea Thai Party senior MP Chalerm Yubamrung has slammed Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, former deputy leader of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party, for trying to block his chances of obtaining a senior executive position in the Puea Thai Party.
He said Khunying Sudarat had slandered him by telephoning media columnists and inciting them to write critical articles about him. He also alleged Khunying Sudarat had tried to disrupt his and his sons' political opportunities.
He also accused Khunying Sudarat, a banned politician following the Thai Rak Thai Party dissolution, of trying to interfere in the party's operations.
Puea Thai party is the latest incarnation of Thai Rak Thai.
Mr Chalerm announced his resignation from all positions from the party before being re-elected by party members to show he had good intentions.
He said he decided to resign to clear all allegations against him raised by members of a faction loyal to Khunying Sudarat who could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Mr Chalerm also denied reports he wanted to become the party leader. He said the report was intended to discredit him.
He said he did not have enough potential to lead Puea Thai as none could live up to the expectations of Thaksin Shinawatra, known as Puea Thai de facto leader.
"To be Puea Thai leader is like committing suicide as none could match up with the opponent," he said. 'In the next election, canvassing campaigns must focus on Mr Thaksin only."
Mr Chalerm said about 30 Puea Thai MPs had volunteered to engage in a debate with the government in the coming no-confidence censure. However, he must try to minimise the number of MPs taking part.
Mr Chalerm said it was quite certain now that Puea Thai Party would file no-confidence and impeachment motions against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul.
