\The row between two key figures in the Puea Thai Party will not have any effect on the opposition camp and its planned no-confidence motion against the Democrat-led government, opposition chief whip Witthaya Buranasiri said on Wednesday.
Mr Witthaya said the conflict between MPs chairman Chalerm Yubamrung and Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, former deputy leader of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party, might be caused by stress.
“Mr Chalerm might have been stressed out and talked a little bit too loud,” the opposition chief whip said. There would be talks to settle the dispute.
He said it would not affect the working of the opposition camp, particularly the censure motion against the Abhisit administration. More than 20 MPs had already signed up to take part in the debate.
“The censure debate committee, chaired by Mr Chalerm, will decide on a suitable number of speakers for the debate,” Mr Witthaya said.
He insisted that there was no movement to prevent Mr Chalerm from being nominated as the next prime minister, as the senior MP had claimed, and that the nominee for the top job would be a key member of Puea Thai Party.
Mr Chalerm on Tuesday accused Khunying Sudarat of trying to block his chance of obtaining a senior executive position in the main opposition party. He also alleged Khunying Sudarat had tried to disrupt his and his son’s political opportunities and interfered in the party’s operation.
Puea Thai MP for Bangkok Anudith Nakornthap said on Wednesday that Khunying Sudarat had been told about the allegations made by Mr Chalerm.
“She will wait until after senior party members have discussed the case, and then she will clarify the accusations,” Mr Anudith said.
