Police nationwide have been ordered to be prepared to maintain law and order on Thursday when the red-shirts of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) plan to stage anti-coup rallies at military camps throughout the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said regional police commanders had been instructed to be ready to cope with the expected step up in activities by the red shirts in February and March, and to be ready if they instigate violence.
"All units must exercise restraint and be patient if faced with provocation," he said.
Nathawut Saikua, a UDD leader, speaking after a meeting on Wednesday, confirmed that the red shirts would tomorrow, starting at 9am, rally in front of military camps throughout the country to show opposition to a possible coup.
The activities would be broadcast live on People Channel, he said.
At 10am, Veera Musikhapong, as chairman of the UDD, would read an anti-coup statementat the same as red-shirt rally leaders throughout the country.
