Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has never paid money to key members of the United Front for Dictatorship against Dictatorship, as claimed by acting government spokesman Panithan Wattanayakorn, UDD leader Jatuporn Promphan said on Wednesday.
Mr Panithan on Tuesday said money had been transferred from overseas into the bank accounts of red-shirt leaders over the past two and three months. An old soldier had also carried money into the country via Suvarnabhumi airport, he claimed.Mr Jatuporn said Thaksin did not transfer 300 million baht to the UDD leaders' accounts for use in organising anti-government rallies, as claimed.

"If the government has the evidence to support the allegation then it should be revealed," the opposition Puea Thai Party MP said.He said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva can ask the Transport Ministry to check the records of the CTX baggage scanners at Suvarnabhumi airport to see whether the red-shirt leaders brought money into the country.
"I also plan to reveal information about a privy councillor who is a friend of Mr Panithan's uncle and who has encroached on a forest reserve," Mr Jatuporn said.
Lt Gen Phirat Sawamiwat, a close aide of Puea Thai chairman Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, also denied that Gen Chavalit received money from Thaksin to support the UDD.“The accusation is totally groundless. It is not easy to get money from Thaksin. The former -prime minister does not have much money,” Lt Gen Phirat said.He said the government was trying to slander its rivals.Controversial army officer and red-shirt supporter Maj Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, widely known as Seh Daeng, said the allegation was an attempt by the government to get at Puea Thai member Panlop Pinmanee, who had just returned from visiting Thaksin in Dubai.
