Lawmakers have greeted a draft bill setting out an ethics code for politicians and civil servants with howls of disapproval.
The members of the House say the code is too restrictive and almost impossible to achieve.
MPs condemned the code yesterday during a house meeting which deliberated the draft legislation.
Section 279 of the constitution requires that the House draft an ethics code. The charter provides for the parliamentary ombudsmen to refer cases of MPs committing serious offences to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for a recommendation on whether the MPs should be impeached.
The special house committee assigned to draft the code has completed its task, made up of 40 sections.
At the centre of the controversy is a section that promotes family values among MPs and state officials, and bars infidelity.
