Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart said on Wednesday he still hopes that more MPs from the opposition Puea Thai and ruling Democrat parties will turn to support charter amendments.
The Chart Thai Pattana chief adviser said this after his and four other junior coalition parties submitted a motion with Parliament President Chai Chidchob seeking to amend Sections 94 and 190 of the constitution.
The motion is signed by 102 MPs.
Puea Thai and Democrat have resolved not to co-sign the motion.
Maj-Gen Sanan said many Puea Thai MPs preferred the single-MP to multi-MP constituencies.
"Many Democrat MPs, too, hold the same opinion, but they have to follow the party's resolution (against the single-MP constituencies). However, there is still time for a rethink and the Democrat Party may review its resolution. And when the time comes they may vote for the amendment legislation," he said.
Maj-Gen Sanan said he had not yet coordinated with senators but believed many of them also supported the coalition parties' amendment motion.
